The LRT urban railway line in Phu Quoc, scheduled to commence construction in late 2025, is one of the key infrastructure projects serving the APEC 2027 High-Level Week. The line is planned to run parallel to DT.975 road, the island's backbone, directly connecting Phu Quoc International Airport to the Convention and Exhibition Center and the hotel complex serving APEC 2027 in the South of the island.
The modern LRT line runs along the DT.975 traffic axis, connecting throughout Ngoc Island and is being urgently constructed
The LRT line has a length of nearly 18 km, a design speed of about 100 km/h, allowing travel time from the airport to the APEC area to be reduced to about 18 minutes. The system achieves a transport capacity of about 4,500 passengers per hour.
The LRT line is designed flexibly with elevated, ground-level, and underground sections, including 6 stations, of which 5 are ground-level stations and 1 underground station located at the APEC Convention Center area. This organizational approach not only optimizes land use and ensures urban landscape but also helps reduce the pressure of road traffic, reflecting the 100-year development vision for Ngoc Island.
The LRT line is designed with many details tailored for operating conditions on the island. The entire project is expected to be equipped with 14 train sets, each consisting of 3 carriages, manufactured to high standards and applying the world's most advanced technology.
The appearance of the electric train features a dominant red tone.
The LRT train's design language is deeply imbued with local characteristics, with an exterior inspired by the Dragon motif in Eastern culture, featuring a dominant red color combined with dynamic orange and yellow stripes. The interior features harmonious color coordination, accented with blue hues reminiscent of the sea and sky, while the partition details are inspired by the iconic Kiss Bridge Phu Quoc, contributing to a highly recognizable travel space.
The train's design not only aims for operational efficiency but also optimizes the visitor experience. The windows are divided into two sections to widen the viewing angle, especially suitable for elevated sections where passengers can fully enjoy the island and sea scenery. The interior space is equipped with large luggage racks, catering to the needs of travelers arriving from the airport. Additionally, the materials used are treated to resist corrosion from sea salt, ensuring durability and stable operation in the specific island environment.
The train compartment prioritizes comfort with wide open views.
Notably, the first trains are expected to arrive at Phu Quoc port in January 2027 in time to serve APEC, demonstrating the organizational and deployment capabilities as well as the strong determination of Sun Group Corporation in building large-scale infrastructure projects, serving the overall development of the Jade Island.
The LRT line is not just a means of transportation but becomes an important link in the synchronous infrastructure chain in Phu Quoc before APEC 2027: from a world-leading modern international airport, the electric train system, to the convention center and high-class accommodation complexes. This seamless connection not only shortens travel distances and enhances the capacity to serve major events but also contributes to shaping a modern tourism urban model, where the visitor experience is optimized from the very first touchpoint. This is also the foundation for the Jade Island to enhance its competitiveness, aiming to become an international destination with infrastructure comparable to major tourist centers worldwide.
