Cherry Blossoms in the Northwest Highlands

Sa Pa is famous for its lush terraced rice fields and year-round cool climate, now enhanced by the captivating cherry blossoms. On the majestic Fansipan mountain, just over 4 hours from Hanoi, a vibrant cherry blossom hill awaits nature lovers and admirers of this flower, symbolic of the Land of the Rising Sun.

These days, the weather on Vietnam's highest peak is ideal for sightseeing, with a mild climate, clear skies, and sunshine stretching across the hills. Over 300 cherry trees at Sun World Fansipan Legend, extending from the clock tower to the Muong Hoa train station, are in full bloom, painting a corner of the Northwest in pink.

Well-suited to Sa Pa's cool climate, Fansipan's cherry blossoms burst into life. The soft pink flower clusters overlap, creating vibrant colors. In the early summer sun, the flowers are even more radiant, standing out against the blue sky, like a miniature Japan in the Northwest highlands.

Fansipan's cherry blossoms begin to bloom in early April and are in full bloom for about a month. Therefore, many tourists have taken the opportunity to plan a visit to Sa Pa during this time to admire the delicate yet captivating beauty of these flowers. Ms. Thu Hang, a tourist from Hanoi, shared: “We were very surprised to find such a beautiful cherry blossom hill at the foot of the mountain. Everywhere we went, there were flowers, the air was fresh, and it felt like all our fatigue disappeared.”

Fansipan Flower Kingdom

In addition to cherry blossoms, this is also an ideal time to admire the “Queen of Northwest Flowers” – the vibrant rhododendrons on top of Fansipan. Among nearly 40 rhododendron species in Hoang Lien National Park, Fansipan has 10 characteristic species, mainly growing at altitudes from 3,000m to 3,143m. Notably, Sun World Fansipan Legend has built a walking path for admiring rhododendrons, allowing visitors to easily explore ancient rhododendron populations with thick trunks and branches, aged 250 to 300 years, at the top of the mountain.

Rhododendrons on Fansipan typically begin blooming in early spring, with some species lasting until October. At the foot of the mountain, the rhododendron hills are in full bloom, creating a vibrant carpet of flowers to welcome visitors. However, this year, due to colder weather, the ancient rhododendrons are blooming later than usual, expected to be at their peak in late April – coinciding with the April 30th – May 1st holiday, promising spectacular scenery for those visiting Fansipan.

This April, Fansipan is bustling with the 2025 Rose Festival “Splendor Amidst the Clouds,” attracting a large number of visitors. The highlight of the festival is Vietnam’s largest rose valley, spanning 50,000 square meters, where exciting activities such as a flower car parade, artistic performances by ethnic artisans, and the Sweet Rose Market will take place.

Stepping into the festival atmosphere, visitors feel like they’ve entered a rose paradise, where nearly 300,000 rose bushes stretch along the Muong Hoa mountain train line from Sa Pa town to the Fansipan cable car station. In addition to native ancient rose varieties, the festival also gathers many “treasures” of the rose world, including some of the most expensive varieties such as Juliet, Aoi rose, Black Baccarat, Catalina, Golden Celebration, Maurice Utrillo, Rouge Royale, Eclair, Spirit of Freedom… All are being meticulously cared for, ready to burst into bloom this summer, creating a space filled with fragrance and color for visitors.

Don’t forget to visit the pure white rum flower garden next to the Muong Hoa mountain train station to take many beautiful photos.

Amidst a space filled with floral fragrance and diverse cultural colors, Fansipan promises unforgettable experiences, captivating visitors during this April holiday season.
