Speaking at the conclusion of the meeting, the Deputy Prime Minister affirmed that preparing infrastructure for APEC 2027 is a very important and urgent task, receiving special attention from the Party and State leaders. "This is the most important foreign affairs task of the country from now until 2030," the Deputy Prime Minister emphasized, while also proposing that An Giang province identify this as a key task in the years 2026-2027.
According to the Deputy Prime Minister, APEC 2027 is not only aimed at successfully organizing an international conference but also at creating long-term development momentum for Phu Quoc and Vietnam.
"The organization of the APEC 2027 Conference in Phu Quoc holds great significance, contributing to ensuring national defense, security, maintaining sovereignty over islands, and creating new development momentum for the 'Pearl Island' as well as the whole country," the Deputy Prime Minister said.
The appearance of the projects changed in just 1-2 months
Reporting at the meeting, the An Giang Provincial People's Committee stated that key projects serving APEC are being implemented simultaneously and have achieved many positive results.

Representative of Sun Group Corporation - the investor implementing many key projects for APEC 2027 in Phu Quoc - Mr. Tran Minh Son - Standing Vice Chairman of the Corporation said that the enterprise identified from the outset that the implementation of projects serving APEC 2027 is a particularly important task and also a source of pride for the enterprise to be chosen to participate in the projects. Despite facing many difficulties in the implementation process, from site clearance, fluctuations in material prices, labor costs to equipment import, the projects are still being implemented according to plan.
According to Mr. Son, all the works inspected by the delegation on August 2 were being implemented with the enterprise's proactive financial resources. "Sun Group does not complain about difficulties, because right from the moment the mission was assigned, we identified these as difficult tasks" , he said.
Sun Group's representative stated that the enterprise is committed to completing Terminal T2 of Phu Quoc International Airport by the end of March 2027, the APEC Convention Center before April 30, 2027, and will continue to mobilize all resources to ensure that accommodation facilities and remaining infrastructure are completed according to the committed timelines with the Government. In parallel, the enterprise is also ready to arrange about 1,000 personnel to coordinate with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and An Giang province in organizing, operating, and serving the APEC 2027 High-Level Week.
“Sun Group is committed to mobilizing all resources to complete the projects on schedule as required by the Government leaders and the province” , Mr. Son said.

Mr. Tran Minh Son - Standing Vice Chairman of Sun Group Corporation - affirmed that the Corporation will pour all resources to complete the projects on schedule
According to the report, the APEC Convention Center has completed about 98% of the reinforced concrete structure, 93% of the steel structure; the Multipurpose Performance Venue has reached about 97% of the concrete structure and is accelerating the construction of the steel structure to synchronize the schedule. The two projects aim to complete the exterior by the end of October 2026 and the interior by the end of March 2027.
At the Phu Quoc International Airport expansion project, Terminal T2 has completed about 95% of the concrete structure, while the second runway has reached about 85%, aiming for completion this year to move on to equipment installation and trial operation before APEC.
Many other infrastructure projects such as DT975 road, APEC Avenue, urban railway line, An Thoi resettlement area, and accommodation areas for the conference are also being implemented simultaneously on multiple construction fronts.
Sharing at the meeting, the Deputy Prime Minister expressed his pleasure that the site inspection results showed that the progress of the projects is generally on track. "Two months ago, when I came to inspect, the convention center area was still very chaotic. But today, the project is basically completed. In just one to two months, the progress will see very rapid changes."
Continuing to remove obstacles to maintain progress
The Deputy Prime Minister also noted that the project implementation process is affected by many objective factors such as the rainy season, rising material prices, fluctuating labor costs, and international shipping costs, while many important equipment must be imported from abroad.
However, through actual inspection, many equipment lines have been brought to the construction site and are being gradually installed, helping the projects reduce their dependence on external factors.

The APEC Convention Center has completed about 98% of the reinforced concrete structure, and 93% of the steel structure.
He stated that the Government has issued Resolution No. 66 stipulating some mechanisms and policies to handle difficulties and obstacles arising from legal regulations on the use of land intended for reclamation, and will soon amend Decision No. 948/QD-TTg of the Prime Minister on assigning tasks to prepare conditions and implement measures to quickly deploy projects serving the APEC 2027 Conference in Phu Quoc city, Kien Giang province, in order to continue resolving issues within the Government's authority.
For mechanisms under the National Assembly's authority, the Government will continue to coordinate to complete them soon to facilitate the smooth implementation of projects.
The Deputy Prime Minister also requested An Giang province to accelerate site clearance for the DT975 route, improve urban landscape, and prevent construction order violations, thereby ensuring the image of a modern and civilized Phu Quoc when welcoming international delegations.
He emphasized that the implementing units have committed to the timeline with the Party and State leaders, therefore, ministries and sectors need to continue to accompany and promptly resolve emerging difficulties in a lawful manner without affecting the goal of completing the projects.
Not only successfully organizing APEC but also creating long-term development momentum
Attending the meeting, Associate Professor, Dr. Tran Dinh Thien - Member of the Prime Minister's Policy Advisory Council, assessed that maintaining the progress of 21 key projects amidst rising material prices and construction costs is a very commendable achievement.
According to him, with only about a year left until APEC, while all projects are entering the final sprint phase, the Government and An Giang province need to proactively build risk prevention mechanisms and support businesses against market fluctuations.
"If businesses are left to bear the risks on their own under the normal process, the risks are very large. This is not the interest of businesses but the national interest."

The multi-purpose venue has reached about 97% of the reinforced concrete and is accelerating the construction of the steel structure to synchronize the schedule.
Specifically, Associate Professor, Dr. Tran Dinh Thien believes that APEC should not be seen as an event that concludes after a week of conferences. According to him, an action plan should be immediately developed to make Phu Quoc a national and global destination after APEC 2027, leveraging the preparation and organization process of the conference to promote Vietnam's image to the world.
This viewpoint also received consensus from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, with the orientation of building Phu Quoc into a "destination to live and create," developing the special administrative-economic zone mechanism, promoting innovation, attracting talent, and international events in the future.
At the end of the meeting, the Deputy Prime Minister called on ministries, sectors, localities, businesses, and construction units to continue joining hands and hearts for the common goal.
"I am also an insider, so I feel very honored to participate in the mission to serve APEC. All participating ministries and sectors are working for national prestige," he said.
According to the Deputy Prime Minister, APEC 2027 is a once-in-a-decades event, so completing the projects on schedule is not only the responsibility of the participating agencies and units but also a source of pride when contributing to a national-scale mission, creating a development foundation for Phu Quoc and Vietnam for many years to come.
