Establishing Year-Round Tourism Peaks

Previously, Phu Quoc’s international tourist peak season mainly concentrated from November to April, coinciding with ideal weather and major holidays for foreign tourists. The 2025 Tet holiday saw an "explosion" of international visitors to the island, breaking all previous records.

However, with the strong growth of high-class tourism and resort infrastructure, along with a series of new events and tourism products, the island is gradually extending its tourism season, attracting international visitors even during traditionally low seasons.

In the first six months of 2025, the island city welcomed nearly 4.5 million visitors, a 33.3% increase year-on-year, reaching 61.1% of the annual plan. International visitors alone accounted for nearly 900,000 visits, a significant 76.7% increase year-on-year. Total tourism revenue reached approximately 21,588 billion VND, a 92.6% increase year-on-year.

Phu Quoc’s tourism ecosystem is highly competitive with other destinations in the country and the region.

In June, Phu Quoc received over 20 international flights per day, compared to 9-11 flights per day in the same period last year. Recently, Greater Bay Airlines of Hong Kong (China) announced that from July, it will operate a Hong Kong to Phu Quoc route with a frequency of 3 flights per week, using Boeing 737-800 aircraft, connecting the island to one of Asia’s most vibrant financial and tourism centers.

Earlier this month, Hong Kong Express also increased the frequency of its flights to Phu Quoc from 2 flights per day to 3 flights per day, with flights from South Korea reaching 7-8 flights per day, reflecting the high demand for tourism from the international market, especially Northeast Asia.

In the South of the island, a high-class entertainment and resort ecosystem has been formed, attracting tourists for many days and seasons throughout the year, as evidenced by the explosive growth of destinations here. In May, Sun World Hon Thom recorded a 72% increase in visitors compared to the same period last year, and in June, this figure remained impressively high at 43%. Notably, iconic entertainment products such as the Kissing Bridge and the Sea Kiss show achieved 108% and 90% in May and June, respectively, compared to the same period in 2024.

Nguyen Tuan Anh, Director of Sun World Hon Thom, said: “Summer 2025 is witnessing outstanding growth in visitors at our businesses in Phu Quoc. These figures not only reflect the attractiveness of the southern island’s tourism ecosystem but also show that Phu Quoc is increasingly meeting the trend of high-class resort tourism, cultural experiences, and entertainment, gradually eliminating seasonality throughout the year.”

Along with the expansion of international flights, these impressive figures are gradually blurring the lines between peak and low seasons, transforming Phu Quoc into a year-round tourist destination.

Attraction from a well-invested ecosystem

According to many tourism experts, the appeal of Phu Quoc Island today comes not only from its pristine natural landscape, but more importantly from its special visa policy, its well-invested tourism and resort ecosystem that meets international standards and has a long-term vision.

Ms. Weichun Liu - CEO of KKday, a leading global online travel platform from Taiwan, shared: “I am truly impressed with the development of Phu Quoc compared to my first visit in 2022. Phu Quoc not only has infrastructure and hotels but also many international programs, performances, and night markets, creating a thriving ecosystem.”

Ms. Weichun Liu also assessed that with its stunning natural beauty and rapid tourism development, Phu Quoc is meeting the needs of the high-end luxury segment, the family segment, and the segment for young people who love partying. “I think this is a place you can revisit every year and have new experiences each time,” she said.

Indeed, in just a few years, the face of Phu Quoc has changed dramatically with hundreds of investment projects, the participation of private economic groups such as Sun Group, VinGroup, BIM Group… and the emergence of prestigious global hotel management brands such as Marriott, Accor, Hilton, Rosewood…

Resorts with diverse experiences are attracting tourists for extended stays.

Phu Quoc is not only focusing on existing products but is also gradually realizing its long-term vision of becoming a world-class eco-tourism and creative center. With the APEC 2027 lever, a series of strategic projects are being strongly implemented, playing a pivotal role in upgrading the island's tourism infrastructure.

The expansion project of Phu Quoc International Airport to serve APEC with a capacity of up to 20 million passengers/year, the APEC multi-functional complex that can simultaneously accommodate 15,000 people, is a necessary preparation to welcome the increasingly strong international tourist flow, especially MICE tourists and event organizers.

Soon, with a cooperation invitation from Sun Group, a series of top luxury resorts in the world such as Rixos, The Luxury Collection, and Ritz Carlton Reserve will land in Phu Quoc like a "promised land". The iconic tower named Khao Vong - Aspira Tower, resembling a full-sailed ship, will proudly stand amidst the sea and sky of southern Phu Quoc, becoming a new symbol of Phu Quoc tourism and a luxurious resort, entertainment, and commercial complex, attracting millions of visitors each year.

The Khao Vong - Aspira Tower, with a total investment of VND 13,000 billion, is expected to be completed in 2027.

With impressive growth rate along with the tourism, resort and convention infrastructure ecosystem gradually being completed, the future of Phu Quoc becoming an international tourism hub is not far away. The expansion of flight routes, the increasing presence of global brands and the diverse international clientele from Asia to Europe are the clearest evidence.

When tourists come to the Emerald Island not only for relaxation, but also to attend events, enjoy art, explore architecture and culture, the concept of low season will gradually be eliminated, making way for a vibrant Phu Quoc year-round.
